Assessment of Various Prognostic Factors in Breast Cancer

Abstract
Breast cancer is now continuously increasing in incidence in Korean women and is the third common neoplasm followed by the uterine cervix cancer and the stomach cancer. Until recently, there have been known many factors associated with the
prognosis of
breast cancer. This study was performed to assess the value of the various clinicopathological factors previously known to be affecting the prognosis of the breast cancer patients as an independent prognostic factor. We have reviewed 198 patients
of
breast cancer who underwent modified radical mastectomy from January 1991 to December 1991 in Korea Cancer Center Hospital which were pathologically confirmed as invasive ductal carcinoma. We have compared patient age, size of tumor mass,
histological
grade, axillary lymphnode metastasis, estrogen receptor status, c-erbB2 over-expression, mutant p53 protein expression, and EGFR expression with the prognosis of patients.
@ES the results were as follows:
@EN 1. The factors related to the distant metastasis were patients age, axillary lymph node metastasis, and overexpression of c-erbB2 oncoprotein.
2. The factors related to the recurrence of breast cancer were patient's age, regional lymph node metastasis, and estrogen receptor status.
3. The factor related to the patients survival rate were Bloom-Richardson histological grade, size of tumor mass, estrogen receptor status and c-erbB2 oncoprotein overexpression.
